WILLMAR — The Kandiyohi County Board of Commissioners have consented to continue accepting refugees for resettlement.

The commissioners voted 3 to 2 Tuesday to send a letter to U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announcing the county's permission.

Voting against the measure were Commissioners Steve Ahmann and Rollie Nissen. The affirmative votes were Commissioners Harlan Madsen, Corky Berg and Roger Imdieke.

The letter of consent is answering the mandate from the Trump administration, outlined in Executive Order 13888, which requires state and county approval to accept refugees.
