WILLMAR — Using the remote meeting program GoTo Meeting, the Willmar City Council on Tuesday remotely interviewed the four final candidates for the city administrator position coming open in June.
The finalists are Tyler Brooks of South Daytona, Florida, most recently employed as an operations commander for the United States Air Force; Guy Scaife, of Bettendorf, Iowa, most recently the town manager of Thetford, Vermont; Dana L. Schoening of Wichita Falls, Texas, currently the director of planning and operations for Sweetwater, Texas; and Robert J. Wolfington Jr. of Benson, the current city manager of Benson.
The national search for the city's new administrator was conducted by Baker Tilly. Patty Heminover, director from Baker Tilly, worked as the moderator for the interviews, asking most of the questions while the council listened in. The questions touched on a variety of issues including management style, plans for the future, how each candidate would work with the council and how the candidate deals with challenges. At the end of each interview, the council had the opportunity to ask follow-up questions.
A final decision on which candidates will move forward to a second, in-person interview will be made during a special council meeting at 7 p.m. May 6. That meeting will be conducted remotely.
Willmar is searching for its next administrator due to the upcoming retirement of current administrator Brian Gramentz., who will be leaving the city in early June.
