GRANITE FALLS -- City Council members in Granite Falls approved change orders at their meeting on Monday for the floodwall project along the Minnesota River in the downtown area.

Council members approved changes orders to H & H Construction, Granite Falls, and Schmidt Construction, project contractor, said City Manager Bill Lavin.

H & H Construction will demolish and remove the concrete foundation of the former Aus storage building, which has been moved. Schmidt Construction will extend the floodwall diagonally toward the river to protect the area of the foundation.

The change orders will bring the total project costs to $98,350.50, or well below earlier engineering estimates of $138,606. The flood mitigation work is funded by the state of Minnesota and Federal Emergency Management Agency.

In other business, council members approved a financing package arranged by the Granite Falls Economic Development Agency for Jim Rittmiller to purchase the Kollen Motors dealership from Dick Kollen. The package includes $60,000 in revolving loan funds provided by the Granite Falls EDA. The overall financing is $700,000, which includes $580,000 in bank financing; $60,000 in private financing; and $60,000 in EDA revolving loan funds.
