GRANITE FALLS -- Granite Falls Energy LLC will pay civil penalties totaling $300,000 for alleged violations at its ethanol plant in 2006 and 2007.

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency reported on Thursday that its staff found numerous violations during inspections at the Granite Falls plant and a review of its records. They included a failure to inspect and maintain production and pollution control equipment; recordkeeping and reporting violations; exceeding permitted water-quality discharge limits; and the production of animal feed wet cakes for which it was not permitted to produce.

The company agreed to pay the civil penalties to the state and take corrective action to prevent future violations.
