Granite Falls man sentenced on assault charge stemming from stun gun incident

WILLMAR -- A 20-year-old Granite Falls man alleged to have attacked a man with a stun gun in October in Willmar was sentenced Wednesday on a felony charge of third-degree assault.

David Medellin Jr. was sentenced to 21 months of prison, stayed for five years, and one year of jail time, with credit for 176 days served. As part of a plea agreement, an additional charge of second-degree assault was dismissed.
Another man tied to the assault, Joel Filiberto Medellin, 24, of Willmar, was sentenced to 90 days in jail in April on a misdemeanor assault charge.
According to the criminal complaint on the charges, the assault reportedly happened on Seventh Street Northwest in Willmar.
David Medellin allegedly charged at the man, striking him with a stun gun.
As the man tried to move away, he was hit in the face with a beer bottle and knocked to the ground, according to the criminal complaint.
The man once again tried to run away and was reportedly struck in the face by Joel Medellin. David Medellin then allegedly punched the man multiple times and kicked him in the face.
