MONTEVIDEO -- Grant Sparby, 83, of Montevideo died Friday at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital after an extended illness.
The service is at 2 p.m. today at Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Entombment with military honors will be at Terrace Lawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation is one hour prior to services at the church. Wing-Bain Funeral Home of Montevideo is in charge of arrangements.

He was born Sept. 10, 1922, in Lily, S.D., to Harold and Manda (Luvaas) Sparby. He attended grade school through the eighth grade at Webster Rural Church School near Webster, S.D.
On Aug. 1, 1942, he married Virginia Haywood in Ortonville. He served during World War II in the United States Army and was discharged in 1944. He worked as a self-employed farm mechanic for many years.
He is survived by his children: Raymond Sparby of Montevideo, Kenneth (and Jill) Sparby of Hutchinson and Danny (and Vicki) Sparby of Jacksonville, Fla.; seven grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren; two sisters: Hazel Solberg of Clark, S.D., and Sylvia Schmidt of Napa, Calif.; and one brother: Norman Sparby of Napa, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Joyce Symens; and two brothers.
