HUTCHINSON -- Sheep grazing, on-farm processing, on-farm meat retailing and a discussion about the variety of options available for pursuing a farming career will be featured at a public tour from 2 to 4 p.m. July 16 at the Lamb Shoppe near Hutchinson.

This tour, which is sponsored by the Land Stewardship Project's Farm Beginnings Program, is free and open to the public. No registration is required. For more information, contact Nick Olson at 320-269-2105 or nicko@landstewardshipproject.org . The Lamb Shoppe is located 10 miles west of Hutchinson on Minnesota Highway 7.

Connie Karstens and Doug Rathke of the Lamb Shoppe ( www.ourfarmtoyou.com ) will provide tour participants a firsthand look at how their grass-based operation has evolved into a full-time processing and retailing business.

This event will also provide participants background on the Farm Beginnings training program and how to enroll in the 2011-2012 course, which will be in Hutchinson at the McLeod County Fairgrounds. The Hutchinson course starts in late October and runs through March. The in-class portion is followed by an on-farm education component that includes farm tours, field days and access to an extensive network of established farmers.
