Guilty plea expected Wednesday from Fergus woman

A Fergus Falls, Minn., woman accused of waiting in the kitchen with a shotgun before shooting and killing her husband last summer is expected to plead guilty today in Otter Tail County District Court.

A Fergus Falls, Minn., woman accused of waiting in the kitchen with a shotgun before shooting and killing her husband last summer is expected to plead guilty today in Otter Tail County District Court.

A grand jury indicted Cordee Jo Tungseth on a first-degree murder charge Aug. 22 for the July 22 shooting death of her husband, Steven Tungseth, 52.

Otter Tail County Attorney David Hauser said he has made an offer to Tungseth in exchange for a guilty plea, but declined to comment further.

"This is when we're hoping we'll resolve it," he said of today's plea hearing.

Tungseth, 46, has admitted shooting her husband and told authorities she also went out and fired a practice round to see how much the gun kicked, according to court documents.

She called 911 about

10 minutes after the shooting, saying, "There's been a shooting, and, um, Steve Tungseth is dead," according to transcripts of the call.

Tungseth, 25577 County Highway 88, faces a maximum sentence of life in prison if convicted of the first-degree charge.

She is being held on $1 million bail.

Her two daughters were among the 11 witnesses who testified at the grand jury hearing.

Tungseth's attorney, Deven Nice, did not return a message seeking comment.
