ST. CLOUD -- The Willmar gymnastics team improved nearly 38 points from last season's opening dual in a 143.1-126.7 Central Lakes Conference loss to St. Cloud Tech Thursday.
The Cardinals could only muster 88.775 points in their 2005-06 debut, but an injury to one of the top five gymnasts contributed to that score.
No injuries plagued the Cardinals Thursday and the team did better than expected considering only two gymnasts -- Bethany Pollock and Brooke Barrett -- saw varsity action in last year's opener.
"There's tons of room for improvement and these girls have the attitude to do it," Selchow said.
Tech's Alise Post won the all-around title with a combined score of 36.1. Willmar's Annalise Bratt, a transfer student from BOLD, was third with a 33.25.

The two-time defending CLC champion Tigers took the top five spots in each individual event.
Willmar coach Larry Selchow had high praise for Pollock, who got a later start than many of her teammates.
"Bethany Pollock did really well considering she qualified for state in diving and didn't have as much time to prepare," he said.
