CLARKFIELD -- Harold Eugene Nelson, 85, of Montevideo died Friday at the Chippewa County-Montevideo Hospital.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Clarkfield Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Military rites will be performed by the Clarkfield American Legion.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Lynner Funeral Home in Clarkfield.
He was born Sept. 12, 1921, on a farm in rural Clarkfield to Nels and Gertie (Hanson) Nelson. He graduated from Clarkfield High School in 1939. He was a member of the Army Air Corps, was stationed in the Pacific and served until October 1945.

He married Betty Aker on Nov. 24, 1945. They farmed with his father and then moved to Montevideo in the mid-1970s. He worked in insurance sales.
He was president of the Clarkfield Lutheran congregation for four years, was a toastmaster, a member of the American Legion and VFW, a member of the Monte Chorus, the Gramps Quartet and the Hauge Male Chorus. He also served on the AMPI Board and worked with the American Heart Association for several years.
He is survived by his children: Cheryl Malzahn of Brooklyn Park, Mark (and Joyce) Nelson of Clarkfield; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 2005; and two brothers.
