BELGRADE -- Harold J. "Harry" Walz, 73, of Belgrade died Monday at his home after a battle with cancer.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Belgrade. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade, with parish prayers at 6:30 p.m., Catholic Aid rosary at 7 p.m., American Legion Post 612 prayer service at 7:30 p.m.; visitation continues at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

He was born Feb. 11, 1933, in St. Nicholas to William and Rose (Schramel) Walz. He attended a country elementary school and graduated from Belgrade High School in 1951. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. He received an associate degree in computer programming in 1958.

He married Rita Marie Herickhoff on Nov. 20, 1956, in Elrosa. They lived in Richfield from 1956 to 1974. He worked as a computer programmer for 20 years. They moved to Belgrade in 1974 and pursued a career in grain farming.

He was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Belgrade where he was a Eucharistic minister and a member of the Catholic Aid.

He is survived by his wife; children: Deborah (and John) Bednark of St. Cloud, Cynthia (and Brian) Weller of Belgrade, Dennis (and Shannon) Walz of Sartell, Jaculin (and James) Weller of Brooten, Sharon (and Terry) Petersen of Lino Lakes, Susan (and Peter) Terres of Melrose, Mary (and Brian) Kollman of Brooten, Stacy (and Eric) Stalberger of Belgrade; 29 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and his siblings: Urban (and Laura), Alcuin, Wilbert, Leo, Mariann (and Robert) Pierson and Vernette Walz.

He was preceded in death by one son-in-law: Dan Blomker.
