DAWSON -- Harold Oliver Windingstad Jr., 77, of rural Dawson died Saturday at the Clarkfield Care Center in Clarkfield.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Providence Valley Lutheran Church near Dawson. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Hanson & Dahl Funeral home in Dawson, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
He was born Aug. 26, 1929, in Providence Township to Harold and Alvina (Simonson) Windingstad. He attended rural school in District 61 and graduated from Dawson High School. He was a caregiver for his grandmother, Nellie Windingstad, until 1953.

He married Dolores Hoyles on June 20, 1953.
He was active in Farmer's Union and served on committees and as local and county chairman. He helped write the history of the Minnesota Farmer's Union and served on the state board. He attended two national conventions and served on state committees. He received the first statewide Farmer's Union Lifetime Achievement Award.
He was active in DFL politics and served as county, senate district and 2nd District Congressional Chair. He served on many committees at the district and state levels and received the HHH Award from the Humphrey family.
Harold served four terms on the Board of Aging, and the Prairie Five Community Action Council for 36 years as chairman of the board, co-treasurer, and on many committees. He also served on the Southwest Housing Partnership Board, the Dawson Development Corporation, and the Western Five Community Action Development Corporation.
He served as a Sunday school teacher and on various committees at his church.
He is survived by his wife.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
