CLARA CITY -- Harold Samuel Gort, 91, of Clara City died Dec. 15 at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar.
The service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City. A private burial was held at the church cemetery.
Tri-County Funeral Home in Prinsburg is handling arrangements. Memorials are preferred to the Minnesota Lions Eye Bank, Mayo Mail Code 493, 420 Delaware St. S.E., Minneapolis MN 55455.

He was born Oct. 12, 1914, in Prinsburg to Henry and Grace (Dykema) Gort. He grew up and attended school in Prinsburg and later worked for Duininck Brothers Construction.
He married Gladyce Prekker in 1940. He was foreman of the Chippewa County Highway Department for more than 32 years, retiring in 1980.
He was a City Council member for 18 years, mayor of Clara City for 16 years and was civil defense coordinator. He was a member of the Lions Club and was Lions Eye Bank chairman, was a member and president of the Lutheran Church Council, a member of the League of Municipalities, Public Utilities Regulation Committee, Highway 7 Association, Regional Development Commission and Region 6W Board of Aging. He was involved with the Hospice Program, Vita Program through Willmar Legal Services, Lutheran Social Service, RSVP, the local food shelf and Food Bank Advisory Committee. He was instrumental in building the Clara City Care Center, served on the Nursing Home Board and provided transportation for many community members for appointments and other needs.
He is survived by his wife; one daughter: Sharon (and William) Hennemuth of St. Louis Park; one son: Randall Gort (and Roseanne Fidelus) of Malvern, Pa.; six grandchildren; two sisters: Marvis (and Virgil) Gerdes of Prinsburg and Gladys Johnston of Grand Rapids, Mich.
He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
