Hector 12-year-old dies after ATV crash Saturday morning in Renville County

Renville County Sheriff's Department deputies responded to a 911 call reporting an ATV crash near Buffalo Lake with a male party trapped beneath the ATV. Carsten Homan, 12, of Hector, was pronounced dead at the scene.

BUFFALO LAKE A 12-year-old boy died after Saturday morning after his all-terrain vehicle crashed in Renville County, according to a news release from the Renville County Sheriff's Office .

According to the release, Carsten Homan, 12, of Hector , and another male juvenile passenger were traveling southbound in the road ditch on the 73000 block of 510th Street in Martinsburg Township when the ATV struck a field approach and overturned.

Homan was pronounced dead at the scene. The male juvenile passenger was not injured.

The Buffalo Lake Ambulance Service, Buffalo Lake Fire Department, Hector Ambulance Service, Hector Fire Department and North Memorial Air Care also responded to the scene reported at 9:35 a.m.
