APPLETON -- Helen Elizabeth Haugland, 96, of Appleton died Jan. 9 at the Appleton Municipal Nursing Home.
The service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at John's Catholic Church in Appleton. Burial will be at Appleton City Cemetery.
Arrangements are with Zniewski Funeral Home, Vaala Chapel, in Appleton. Memorials preferred to the Appleton Senior Center.

She was born June 22, 1909, in Watson to Paul Peterson and Elizabeth Ann (Charron) Wattum. She graduated from Montevideo High School and attended the University of Minnesota-Morris.
She married Gifford L. "Happy" Haugland on June 3, 1929, in Montevideo. They worked at their business, Western Electric Service, for many years and sold it in 1969. They moved to Phoenix and worked at Turf Paradise/Arizona Downs horse track during the winter and at resorts in Jackson Hole and Bryce Canyon in the summer. They moved to Appleton in 1985.
She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Appleton and the Appleton Hospital Auxiliary. She volunteered at Pioneer Public Television, Senior Center luncheons, church functions, and the Swift County Fair.
She is survived by her sons: Garth L. (and Ruth) Haugland of Dillon, Mont., Rodney P. Haugland of Woodbury; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1989, one brother and three sisters.
