WILLMAR -- Helen L. Elkjer, 91, of Willmar died Monday at the Burns Manor Nursing Home in Hutchinson.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Covenant Church in Willmar. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Memorials are preferred to the Rice Hospice Program. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home.

She was born April 17, 1916, in Watertown, S.D. to George and Martha (Henning) Nichols. She grew up in Willmar and attended Willmar schools.

She married Donald Elkjer Aug. 18, 1936, in Dassel. He was employed by the F.W. Woolworth Company and they lived in several communities in the upper Midwest area. For more than 15 years, they owned and operated the Dinky Town Dime Store on the University of Minnesota campus. They returned to Willmar. From 1973 to 1978, they owned and operated the Hallmark Card Shop in downtown Willmar.

She is survived by her husband.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
