GRANITE FALLS-A detour of Highway 23 from Granite Falls to Cottonwood will begin July 20, so the Minnesota Department of Transportation can construct passing lanes along the north segments of Highway 23.
Drivers will take Highway 274/County Road 6 to County Road 1/County Road 10, to bypass the construction zone.
Currently a detour is in effect south of Raymond to Clara City for the passing lane project, which started July 13.
The Highway 23 passing lane project is part of the Corridors of Commerce Project, created by the 2013 Minnesota Legislature.
The sale of up to $300 million in new bonds for construction, reconstruction and improvements of state trunk highways was authorized by state lawmakers. Benefits of the projects include enhanced highway safety by reducing the need for high-risk passing, provides opportunities to pass slower moving traffic and encourages commercial traffic to use the corridor instead of finding alternative, and less safe routes.
