Highway 40 detour west of Willmar ends as project nears completion
A project to replace old culverts and a timber bridge with new box culverts on state Highway 40 west of Willmar is nearly done and the final detour has been removed.
WILLMAR — The final detour on state Highway 40 west of Willmar ended Friday, June 4, as a project to replace culverts and an old timber bridge in Kandiyohi and Chippewa counties nears completion.
New box culverts were installed to replace a culvert west of Kandiyohi County Road 7, an old timber bridge west of Chippewa County Road 3 and a culvert east of state Highway 29.
The road has been paved and crews are completing shouldering and erosion control work, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
In about two weeks, crews will install striping and rumble strips under traffic.
The $1.3 million project, which is being done by Riley Brothers Construction of Morris, is expected to be completed by the end of June.
