Work begins on Highway 59 in Swift County

HOLLOWAY -- Construction work on U.S. Highway 59 north of Holloway is scheduled to begin Monday.

The project involves nine miles of Highway 59 from the junction of U.S. Highway 12 to the north Swift County line. Three miles of the highway will be realigned. The project also includes bituminous work, culvert replacement, shoulder widening and turn-lane construction.

Motorists should watch for a signed detour starting May 8. Traffic will be detoured starting at the junction of Highways 59 and 12 and will take Highway 12 east to Benson and state Highway 9 northwest to Morris.

Weather permitting, the project will be completed by mid-September.

Riley Bros. Construction of Morris is the main contractor for the $5.7 million project.

MnDOT urges motorists to drive with caution, slow down in the work zone and to never enter a roadway that has been blocked with barriers or cones. For updated statewide traffic, construction and travel information visit www.511mn.org .

Delays expected at junction of Highways 12/22 and 24

LITCHFIELD -- Motorists will encounter delays on U.S. Highway 12/state Highway 22 north of Litchfield from the junction of state Highway 24 to three-quarters of a mile north, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Construction crews began installing water main, sanitary sewer and manholes Monday in this area, said Geri Vick at the Willmar MnDOT office. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be complete by mid-June. This is a city of Litchfield construction project.

The work will be done under traffic, and flag personnel may direct motorists through the work zone. MnDOT reminds motorists to slow down and to follow posted speeds in the work zone. Speed fines double in work zones.
