Hjalmer "Floyd" Boraas

APPLETON -- Hjalmer "Floyd" Boraas, 95, of Appleton, died Friday at Appleton Area Health Services.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton. Burial will be at Appleton City Cemetery.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Zniewski Funeral Home-Vaala Chapel in Appleton is in charge of arrangements.

He was born June 4, 1912, in Hantho Township, Lac qui Parle County, to Sivert and Johanna (Bang) Boraas. He attended rural school, District 104 and Appleton High School. He married Selma Bertness on June 3, 1938. They lived and farmed in Hantho Township for 64 years. He retired in 1976 and they moved to Appleton. In 2001 he moved into Apple Ridge Estates. He entered the nursing home in August.
He was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, where he served as trustee, usher on the funeral committee and delegate to the Madison Lutheran Home. He was on the pastor call committee. He played in the Hantho Band with four brothers and provided transportation to Montevideo and Willmar for patients in need of medical care.
He is survived by a son: Roger (and Marlene) Boraas, of Appleton; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his wife; a son: Wayne; a sister; seven brothers; and one half brother.
