Horner says race for governor is now a two-person race

WILLMAR -- Tom Horner said the race for governor is between him and DFLer Mark Dayton.

During a campaign stop in Willmar today Horner, the Independence Party candidate for governor, said he believes Republican Tom Emmer has tapped out his base of support.

Based on polls, Horner said Emmer will have about 30 percent at the votes.

Horner, who has gained the support of some high-profile Republican leaders, said about one-third of Dayton supporters don't necessarily like the DFLer but may vote for him "out of fear of Emmer."

Given the state's economic problems and political gridlock at the capitol, Horner said this isn't the time to vote for the status quo.

"This is the year in which we need boldness in Minnesota," said Horner.

He said Emmer would take the state a few steps to the right and Dayton would take the state a few steps to the left but he would move the state forward.

Besides his own solid supporters, Horner said there are many undecided voters and "soft" Dayton supporters that he believes he'll win over in the last two weeks before the election.

Horner said his campaign has gained momentum that could carry him to the governor's office.
