CHANHASSEN -- Hot and humid conditions will last until this afternoon for much of southern Minnesota, according to the National Weather Service in Chanhassen, with forecast high temperatures well into the 90s through today for portions of the region.
The forecast high today in Willmar is 87 degrees, and Willmar is no longer in the excessive heat warning though areas to the south continue to be in a warning until 7 p.m. today.
Adding to the hot temperatures, dew point temperatures will be high as well. Dew points above 70 degrees will be common across southern Minnesota and west central Wisconsin, which will produce heat index values greater than 100 degrees, the Weather Service said.
Relief will arrive tonight, with high temperatures this weekend in the 80s along with dew points in the 60s. The forecast high Saturday in Willmar is 81, with a low of 63, and a high of 83 on Sunday and 63 on Sunday night.
Rain is likely as well today. The Weather Service forecast says there is a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1 p.m. today and into the evening.
