WILLMAR -- Howard Gustav Oslund, 87, of Willmar and Northfield died Friday at St. Lucas Care Center in Faribault.

The service will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. Burial will be in Cloverleaf Cemetery in Willmar.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.

He was born on Jan. 25, 1919, in Minneapolis to Carl and Tillie (Christiansen) Oslund. The family later moved to the Willmar area. He attended Ringo Lake School.

He entered the U.S. Navy in December 1942 and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater during World War II. He was honorably discharged in September 1945.

He married Inez Carlson on Feb. 7, 1945, in Mount Vernon, Wash. They moved to Willmar in 1947 where he attended classes and began working at the Willmar power plant as a steam engineer. In May 1963 they moved to Northfield where he worked as chief engineer of the St. Olaf College power plant until retiring in 1983.

The couple spent the winter months in Yuma, Ariz. They moved from Northfield and back to Willmar in 2002. He later entered Rice Care Center, and in August he moved to the St. Lucas Care Center in Faribault.

He is survived by his wife; sons: Clifford of Northfield, Stanley of St. Paul, and David of New Castle, Wyo; four grandchildren; a brother: Dick (and Vi) of Riverview, Mich; a sister: Ellen (and David) Hestad of Bloomington; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers.
