BENSON -- A deer hunter from Minnetonka is recovering after being struck in the leg by a shotgun slug while hunting Monday in Swift County.

Louis Burns, 33, was treated and released from the Swift County-Benson Hospital and is seeking follow-up care on his own, the Swift County Sheriff's Department stated Tuesday in a news release.

Burns was hunting with his brother, Sam Burns, 37, of Sandy, Utah, in Six Mile Grove Township at the end of the day in low light conditions. His brother shot at a deer with a 12-gauge shotgun. The shot missed and the slug traveled nearly 500 yards over a hill and struck the younger Burns in the leg, according to the news release.

He was able to walk to a vehicle, and his brother drove them to the hospital in Benson.

The Swift County Sheriff's Department and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources investigated the incident.
