WILLMAR -- Gert and Buzz Bulthuis were honored Thursday at the Kandiyohi County Fair for their contributions to the community.
They are the 2006 Outstanding Senior Woman and Man in Kandiyohi County.
Gert Bulthuis serves as the assistant treasurer for the Rice Auxiliary, processing weekly transactions for the gift shop the group operates at Rice Memorial Hospital. She also volunteers in the radiation oncology department, welcoming patients and their families and offering comfort. She is also a member of the Rice Auxiliary Board.
She also assists the Youth for Christ organization with monthly mailings and managing volunteers at Bibles For Missions. She has been to Mississippi to help with cleanup in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
Buzz Bulthuis spends many hours volunteering at Rice Memorial Hospital in the hemodialysis department, making patient packs and offering en-couragement. He also serves as a driver for patients.

Kandiyohi Area Transit also has the benefit of his volunteer driving as he provides rides for such things as appointments or shopping.
He is a valuable blood donor, visiting the Red Cross regularly.
He has used his skills as a handyman with Habitat for Humanity, working two mornings a week and other times to construct the homes.
He is a master builder and supervises volunteers who work on the houses.
He also volunteers with Pairs and Spares to help repairs homes and churches.
