ALEXANDRIA, Minn. (AP) -- State officials say Interstate 94 has reopened between Alexandria and the North Dakota border. However, they're urging people in west-central Minnesota to stay off the roads if possible.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation says I-94 and Highway 10 between Moorhead and Detroit Lakes reopened Friday at 10:30 a.m. Both stretches were closed Thursday evening.
MnDOT spokeswoman Dana Hanson says snow and strong winds had created hazardous drifts. She says even though the roads have reopened, wind and drifting snow are reducing visibility. She also says icy patches are creating dangerous driving conditions.
KSAX-TV says weather is expected to worsen in the region. The National Weather Service says the Alexandria area can expect 7 to 9 inches of snow by early Saturday morning, with temperatures ranging from minus-5 to 10 degrees.
