GROVE LAKE -- Ila Mae Stokes, 82, of Grove Lake died Wednesday at her daughter's home in Grove Lake.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Brooten.
She was born May 31, 1925, near Jonesboro, Tenn., to Joseph Hicks Spurling and Elizabeth (Byrd) Spurling. She grew up on a farm near Jonesboro and attended Jonesboro Country School.

She married John Stokes on Aug. 20, 1939, in Knoxville, Tenn. They lived in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1952, the family moved to Miami, Fla., where she worked as an aide at the VA Hospital. John died in 1963. She returned to Tennessee in 1996. In 2001, she moved to Minnesota.
She was a member of Enon Baptist Church.
She is survived by her son: Donald Stokes of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; daughters: Shirley (and Larry) Miller of Grove Lake, Lynda (and Donald) Phillips of Sevierville, Tenn., and Tamara Morris of Sorrento, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister: Mildred Izard of Norwich, N.Y.; and one brother, William Spurling of New Market, Tenn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, four brothers, four sisters and her daughter-in-law, Patti Stokes.
