WILLMAR - Roger Imdieke is the unofficial winner over Alan Welle in a two-way race for the District 4 Kandiyohi County Commissioner seat.
Unofficial results show Imdieke with 2,935 votes and Welle with 1,816 votes.
The winner will take over the seat that's being left open by the retirement of Commissioner Dennis Peterson of Spicer, who did not file for re-election after serving on the county board since 1993.
Imdieke, 57, of rural New London, is involved with production agriculture and currently operates Three Sisters Furnishings with his wife and three daughters. He has been involved with retail and tourism organizations in the northern part of the county and cites economic development and cuts to local government aid as the two top issues facing the county.
Welle, 67, is a Vietnam veteran, former businessman and teacher who served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1982 to 1994. Welle ran against Peterson for County Board in 2004 but had been out of state and local politics since then.

Welle, who lives north of Willmar on Eagle Lake, said Aquatic Invasive Species and cuts to local government aid are the primary issues facing the county. He said zebra mussels are a "serious threat to our quality of life in Kandiyohi County."
District 4 includes the cities of New London, Spicer and Regal as well as Burbank, Irving, Roseville, Green Lake and New London Townships.
