Injured Willmar police officer released from St. Cloud hospital

A law enforcement caravan escorted the wounded Willmar police officer into Willmar Saturday afternoon. The officer was released from the CentraCare St. Cloud Hospital Saturday after being injured early Friday a.m. in a domestic incident early Friday on the 800 block of Mary Avenue Southeast in Willmar. WILLMAR — The Willmar police officer seriously injured while responding to a domestic incident in Willmar Friday morning was released Saturday from the CentraCare St. Cloud Hospital and able to return to her Kandiyohi County home.

The officer was reportedly stabbed multiple times while responding to the call around 5:40 a.m. Friday on the 800 block of Mary Avenue Southeast in Willmar.

A suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene and was taken to the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office to determine the cause and manner of death and for formal identification, according to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

After being stabbed, the Willmar officer was taken by ambulance to Carris Health-Rice Memorial Hospital and then airlifted to the hospital in St. Cloud.

A woman who was in the home was also reportedly injured by the suspect. She was treated at Carris Health-Rice Memorial Hospital and released.

Willmar police officers responded to a 911 call of a domestic incident and when arriving at the scene encountered a male inside the home. According to the preliminary BCA news release, the officer sustained multiple knife wounds and one officer discharged a Taser during the incident.

The BCA investigators are determining whether any officers discharged a firearm.

The incident remains under investigation by the BCA. The names of the deceased or the officer involved in the incident have not been released by the BCA.
