Interim Ridgewater dean accepts permanent appointment

Melissa Majerus has been named dean of liberal arts and sciences for transfer programs at Ridgewater College. She was interim dean for the past year.

WILLMAR — Dr. Melissa Majerus has been named dean of liberal arts and sciences for transfer programs at Ridgewater College.

Majerus previously held the same job as an interim dean.

Liberal arts and sciences courses include composition, speech, math, psychology, history, sociology, political science, biology, chemistry and art.

“During the last year, I have had the opportunity to learn about and embrace the Ridgewater College community … ” Majerus said in a news release.

She said she hopes to grow and develop the program by adding courses, working with transfer institutions and working with faculty, staff and students.

Majerus came to Ridgewater College a year ago from St. Cloud Technical & Community College where she was director of campus life for five years. She oversaw student government, student life, programming, athletics and student conduct.

Majerus has been a recreation, physical education and health instructor. She coached basketball, softball and volleyball at Mayville State University, Spring Lake Park High School and Northland Community and Technical College.

Majerus has a Minnesota K-12 teaching license in physical education and has a bachelor’s degree in health fitness from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter. She earned a master’s degree in teaching and learning from St. Mary’s University and a doctorate degree from the University of North Dakota.
