LITCHFIELD -- Iona Mae Olson, 84, of Litchfield died Saturday at Emmanuel Home in Litchfield after a lengthy illness.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Burial will be in the Ripley Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield and one hour prior to the service at the church.

She was born Sept. 27, 1921, in rural Canby to Joe and Emma (Engel) Hendrickson. She grew up on the family homestead near Burr where she attended country school. She graduated from high school in Canby in 1940. She attended normal school in Canby and Dawson for four years.

She married Clinton W. Olson on Sept. 21, 1944, in Canby. They lived in Sioux City, Iowa, for a year and then returned to Canby. She taught school for one year there. They moved in 1954 to Atwater where Clint owned and operated Olson Chevrolet. In 1958, they moved to Litchfield. She taught kindergarten and second grade at Longfellow Elementary and special education at Ripley Elementary in Litchfield, retiring in 1983. While she was teaching she also attended St. Cloud State College and received her bachelor's degree and fifth-year degree.

After retirement, they spent winters in Mission, Texas, where she did volunteer work at an elementary school and several missions. She was active in her church and was a 4-H member and leader.

She was survived by her children: Dean Olson of Blaine, Cordell (and Claudia) Olson of Helena, Mont., Janet Olson of Litchfield, JoAnn (and Barry) Deviney of Litchfield; five grandchildren; and a brother: Arvin Hendrickson.

She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter-in-law: Connie Olson; and one brother.
