WILLMAR -- Irene Lavina Benson, 97, of Elk River, formerly of Willmar and Benson, died Tuesday at Guardian Angels Care Center in Elk River.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday.
She was born March 30, 1909, in Benson to Andrew J. and Alma Helen (Jacobson) Olson. She grew up in Benson and graduated from Benson High School in 1927. She attended the Minneapolis School of Art and later returned to work in Benson.

She married Arnold Benson on June 16, 1937, in Benson. They lived in Willmar. She lived in southern California during World War II. They returned to Willmar and lived on Eagle Lake. She was self-employed as a seamstress all her life. They moved to Robbinsdale in 1960. Arnold died in 1976. She later moved to Elk River and then to an assisted living facility in 2003.
She is survived by one niece and several great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; and one brother.
