BELGRADE -- Ivan Adams Hokom, 85, of Belgrade died Monday at the Belgrade Nursing Home.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Grace Lutheran Church in Belgrade. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade and for one hour prior to the service at the church.

He was born June 19, 1920, on Green Lake to Olaf and Maude (Adams) Hokom. He grew up on Green Lake and north of New London, where he attended school. He worked on the family farm. He entered the U.S. Army and served during World War II.

He married Peggy Rejall on Feb. 15, 1947, in Willmar. They lived in rural New London until 1965, when they moved to Green Lake. He owned and operated the Phillips 66 gas station in Spicer from 1968 to 1972. He then worked as a heavy equipment operator in road construction for several companies throughout the state and was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 49. He also worked for Northern Border Pipeline Company before he retired in 1983. They moved to Belgrade in 1995. Peggy died in 1998.

He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and the Belgrade VFW.

He is survived by his children: Kathy Hokom of Spicer, Kevin (and Sandy) Hokom of New London, Russell Hokom (and special friend Shirley Hanson) of New London; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sisters: Marjorie Sordahl of Willmar and Olive Hokom of Minneapolis.

He was preceded in death by his wife and one sister.
