SPICER -- John Burton Anderson, 79, of Spicer died Saturday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer. Burial will be at Calvary Lutheran Cemetery in Willmar.

Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home and West Central Cremation Service in Willmar.

He was born Nov. 22, 1926, in Willmar to John and Bertha (Pederson) Anderson. He grew up in Willmar and graduated from Willmar High School in 1944. He entered the U.S. Navy and served as radioman on troop transport. He attended Augsburg College.

He married Carol Mickelson on Oct. 15, 1949, in Willmar. They lived in Willmar and he was office manager at Willmar Ready Mix and Central States Construction for many years. He started the Corneil-Elkjer Real Estate company. He was district manager for Midwest Planned Investments and manager of the Dean-Jones Stores for several years. He owned and operated Little Crow Realty.

He served on the committee that oversaw transfer of the Willmar Air Force Base to Willmar Community College, served on the board of directors of the Chamber of Commerce, was a member of Willmar Township Board, and served on the Willmar Planning Commission.

He was a member of Faith Lutheran in Spicer and had served on many committees and as president of the congregation.

He is survived by his wife; daughter: Jennifer (and Dennis) Peterson of Hector; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one brother: Eugene (and Grace) Anderson of Tacoma, Wash.

He was preceded in death by three grandchildren in infancy.
