BIRD ISLAND -- John Roger Olson, 85, of Bird Island died Thursday at the Golden Living Center in Olivia.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Palmyra Covenant Church in rural Hector. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Hughes Funeral Home in Hector and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church. Memorials are preferred to Palmyra Covenant Church and the Forest City Stockade Committee.

He was born Sept. 30, 1922, to John Arthur and Mabel Olson. He attended school at District 46 and later graduated from the Bird Island School.
On Dec. 28, 1946, he married Marie Anderson. He farmed until his retirement. They had lived on their farm for 61 years.
He was a member of Palmyra Covenant Church and had served on the board in various capacities. He was a member of the Palmyra Town Board, where he served as treasurer for 22 years.
He is survived by his wife; children: Sandra (and Alan) Freeman of Gilbert, Ariz., Jon Gareth (and Carolyn) Olson of Otsego, Mark (and Pam) Olson of Bird Island, Meridee Miller of Elk River; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters: Deloris Olson of Buffalo Lake and Carrol Olson of Hector; and a brother: K. Wesley (and Harriet) Olson of Dassel.
