Fresh from his sudden-death victory at the KX4/Bank of the West Amateur at Moorhead, Andy Jacobson will defend his club title in match play at Eagle Creek today and Sunday.

Fresh from his sudden-death victory at the KX4/Bank of the West Amateur at Moorhead, Andy Jacobson will defend his club title in match play at Eagle Creek today and Sunday.

Jacobson is hard to stop when he puts his mind to it. The match-play format probably favors his style: he can blow a hole or two in match and quickly win it back, something that is harder to do in stroke play.

The winner will have to win four 18-hole matches, two each day.

Jacobson, the son of club pro Joel Jacobson, stroke play champion Danny Anderson and junior champ Sam Warzecha were automatically seeded into the 16-man bracket. Mitch Warzecha led qualifying with a two-under 70, followed by Lakeland runner-up Bart Bradford at even par, and then 2005 match-play champ Greg Hilding at 74 and Scott L. Johnson at 75.

Here are today's first-round pairings: Jacobson vs. Jim Schammel, Derek Hilding vs. Matt Gorans, Bradford vs. Eric Means, Paul Hannig vs. Scott Caruthers, Anderson vs. Jason King, Johnson vs. Jon Grabow, Mitch Warzecha vs. Norm Strehlow and Greg Hilding vs. Sam Warzecha.

The senior bracket will be decided among Howie Swift, Gary Hern, Ken Warzecha, Tom Dooley, Dave Fritz, Chris Meinert, Mick Schmit and Neil Tagawa.

John Sebey will defend his Super Senior crown.
