REDWOOD FALLS -- James A. Wittwer, 51, of rural Redwood Falls died Monday at his home. He had multiple sclerosis for an extended period.

The service will be at 5:30 p.m. today at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls. There will be at private family burial at a later date.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to the time of service at the church today. Arrangements are with Redwood Valley Funeral Home in Redwood Falls.

He was born Aug. 10, 1955, in Redwood Falls to Samuel and Doris (Sward) Wittwer. He graduated from Redwood Falls High School in 1973 and from the University of Minnesota in 1977, with a degree in animal science.

He married Cynthia Wittwer on Aug. 12, 1978, in Redwood Falls. He farmed with his father until the early 1990s, when he retired due to complications of his illness.

He was a member of the Minnesota Pork Producers, participated in the University of Minnesota Foreign Exchange Program, the MS Society and Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. He worked with the youth group at St. John's Lutheran Church and coached the St. John's Lutheran girls basketball team.

He is survived by his wife; son: Trevor; and siblings: Kathy (and Jim) Bradley of Farmington, N.M., Sonya (and John) Enabnit of Gilbert, Ariz., Pam Young of Northfield, and Tim (and Rosalie) Wittwer of Foley.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
