BROOTEN -- James DeWayne "Jim" TeBrake, 66, of Brooten died Tuesday at Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Brooten Community Church. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Chapel in Brooten and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

He was born Sept. 21, 1940, on the family farm in Brooten to Gerrit and Susan (DeKok) TeBrake. He attended school and lived in Brooten throughout his life.

He married Shirley Giere on June 16, 1961, in Moorhead. They lived in Brooten. He worked on the family farm, for his father's milk hauling business, and also was an owner/operator truck driver. He farmed for Hauge/Welte Farms and his brother. He also worked as the transportation director for the BBE school system for 29 years. He retired in 2002. He worked part time at Lewis Motor Repair.

He was a member of the Brooten Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years and served as fire chief for nine years. He was an EMT for the Brooten Ambulance Service for 10 years. He served on the Brooten City Council and was a member of Brooten Community Church, where he served as both elder and deacon.

He is survived by his wife; children: Cheryl (and Mark) Winter of Oakdale, David (and Michele) TeBrake of Cold Spring, Mary (and John) Carlson of St. Joseph; six grandchildren; and three siblings: Gary (and Mavis) TeBrake of Glenwood, Thelma (and Tom) Buss of Edina, and Cindy TeBrake of Bloomington.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
