GLENWOOD -- James Fredrick Babekuhl, 73, of Glenwood died Friday at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood.
The service will be 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Hoplin Funeral Home in Glenwood. Visitation will be one hour before the service. A second memorial service will be Thursday at Salem Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church.
He was born on Nov. 24, 1932, to Fredrick and Martha Babekuhl in Minneapolis. He attended DeLaSalle High School and received training as a railroad mechanic. He worked for the Soo Line Railroad in the Minneapolis depot from 1952 to 1962.
He married Arlyss Rupner on March 22, 1957, in Minneapolis. He 1962, he began a 35-year career as a member of the Minneapolis Fire Department at Station 10 where he drove a ladder truck for many years. He took mandatory retirement in 1998.

He is survived by his wife of Starbuck; one daughter, Carm (and Marv) Wetterow of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sons, Todd Babekuhl of Minneapolis, and Craig (and Chris) Babekuhl of Sioux Falls, S.D.; seven grandchildren; three sisters, Shirley Lyman of Minneapolis, Joyce Heidelberg of Brooklyn Park, and Marilyn Storm of Brooklyn Park; one brother, Jerry Babekuhl of Dallas, Ga.; and one step-brother, John Thies.
He was preceded in death by one sister and one step-brother.
