Jan. 1, 1917 - Dec. 15, 2006 ATWATER -- James Howard Brown, 89, of Atwater died Friday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. The service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Willmar. Burial will be at Union Cemetery in Atwater.

ATWATER -- James Howard Brown, 89, of Atwater died Friday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Willmar. Burial will be at Union Cemetery in Atwater.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Atwater Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

He was born Jan. 1, 1917, in Marcus, Iowa, to Howard and Jesse (Bosworth) Brown. He grew up in the Paullina, Iowa, area and graduated from Paullina High School in 1935. He farmed in the Paullina area.

He married Katherine Van Maasdam on June 5, 1940. They farmed in the Paullina and Royal, Iowa, areas and then moved to rural Atwater in 1955. He worked as a carpenter in 1961 and they moved into Atwater in 1966.

He was a former member of the Atwater Baptist Church and a current member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Willmar. He was active in both churches, held many offices, served on several boards, and was a Sunday school teacher.

He is survived by his children: Ben (and Carol) Brown of Fairfax, Dan Brown of South Haven, Betty (and Robert) Paulson of Atwater, Linda (and Jim) Wines of Maple Grove, Jean (and Bruce) Scott of Champlin; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one brother: Robert (and Marge) Brown of Germantown, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 2001; one brother and five sisters.
