BIRD ISLAND -- James Hopman, 62, of Nelson, formerly of Renville County, died Saturday at his home.
The service will be at 1:15 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bird Island. Burial will be at St. Aloysius Cemetery in Olivia.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia.
He was born July 6, 1944, in Willmar to Vernon and Rita (Dingels) Hopman. He grew up and attended school in Olivia and Bird Island. He served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1965 and then returned to Renville County and farmed. He moved to the Brainerd area and worked with cattle and then moved to Nelson and assisted in farm work.

He was a member of the Bird Island American Legion.
He is survived by his siblings: Thomas (and Joyce) Hopman of Olivia, Barbara (and Steven) Kirtz of Olivia, Glenn (and Beverly) Hopman of Emerado, N.D., Charlene (and Todd) Olson of New London; and his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
