TAZEWELL, Va. -- James R. Ogren, 71, of Tazewell, Va. died Aug. 29, in Salem, Va., after a brief illness.
Graveside services took place Sept. 1 at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypoalhill, Va.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Lutheran Church in Willmar.
He was born in Willmar to Victor and Myrtle Ogren. He grew up in Willmar and graduated from Willmar High School and attended Gustavus Adolphus College. He was drafted into the United States Army. He served in two tours in Vietnam and earned the Silver Star and two Bronze Stars. He retired as a sergeant major after 30 years of service.

He is survived by a daughter; Candace (and Brett) McAlpine of San Antonie, Texas; a step-daughter: Cathy (and Dave) Cannon of Charlotte, N.C.; step-son: Fred (and Tina) Sword of Danville, Va.; and six grandchildren; his mother; a sister: Marjorie (and John) Yaeger of Fairport, N.Y.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice Ogren and his father.
