WILLMAR -- James Richard Towner, 82, of Willmar died Saturday at the Belgrade Nursing Home.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Living Word Lutheran Church at the Prairie Meadow Learning Center in Spicer. Burial will be at Lake Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Johnson Funeral Home in New London.

He was born on Nov. 6, 1925, in Morris to James and Gladys (Richards) Towner. He grew up in the Morris area and attended grade school at District 47 and Alberta High School.

He married Mildred Johnson. They farmed near Cyrus until moving to Litchfield, where he worked for the Litchfield Public Utilities for 17 years, retiring in 1982. Mildred died in 1998.

He married Janet Krone on March 6, 1999. They lived in New London and Willmar.

He was a former member of the Litchfield Church of Christ where he served as vice chairman of the board and president of Sunday school. He was a member of Living Word Lutheran Church in Spicer where he was past president of the church.

He is survived by his second wife; stepchildren: Linda (and James) Doll of Watkins, Deborah Krone of Eden Valley, Tammy (and Daniel) Miller of New London, and Wayne Krone of Cold Spring; nine step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and one sister: Shirley (and Rudolf) Rath of Alexandria.

He was preceded in death by his first wife and a brother.
