WILLMAR - Jennie-O Turkey Store, which made a $60,000 donation to United Way for a new Growmobile earlier in the year, announced Tuesday another $10,000 donation to the United Way for the Growmobile food backpack program.
The Growmobile is a mobile preschool that travels to different neighborhoods in Kandiyohi County with on-site preschool activities, healthy snacks and lunches. The Growmobile backpack program provides a backpack to needy families each week with food supplies for a family of four.
“We are thrilled to partner with these organizations and contribute to their efforts to feed the families in need in our area,” said Matt Schrupp, plant manager for Jennie-O Turkey Store’s Willmar Avenue Plant in a news release.
Hormel Foods, parent company of Willmar-based Jennie-O Turkey Store, donated $220,000 to local hunger relief organizations in 2013 in more than 20 cities where it has manufacturing facilities, according to the news release. In 2014, Hormel plans to provide funds to 39 plant locations to help local organizations fighting hunger.
