STARBUCK -- Jerry Melvin Branby, 72, of Starbuck died Sunday at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck. Burial will be at the church cemetery in rural Starbuck.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

He was born March 20, 1934, in Starbuck to Melvin and Ann (Barsness) Branby. He attended grade school in the Starbuck area and then the family moved to Minneapolis. He graduated from Edison High School in 1952. He attended the University of Minnesota for four years, then enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served with the ski patrol in Germany and Austria and also was a bugler. He was honorably discharged and went into sales.

He married Alyne Stewart in April 1962. He began his own carpentry business. He retired in the Starbuck area and volunteered at the Starbuck VFW and fundraising for the Starbuck Eagle Scouts.

He was a member of Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck, the Starbuck VFW, was involved with the Boy Scouts of America and served as a scout master and volunteered with the Eagle Scout program.

He is survived by his children: Jason (and Vineeta) Branby of St. Paul, Justin Branby of Alexandria, Jessica Branby of St. Paul; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
