OLIVIA -- John A. Kubesh, 78, of Olivia died Saturday at Renville County Hospital in Olivia.
The service is at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia. Military honors will be provided by the Olivia VFW and American Legion. A private family burial will take place in the church cemetery.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation continues Tuesday at the funeral home from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m.
He was born June 22, 1928, in rural Olivia to Joseph and Marie (Elfering) Kubesh and grew up and attended school in Olivia.
After graduating from Olivia High School he worked with his father on the family farm before enlisting in the U.S. Army, serving for two years.

On Jan. 15, 1955, he married Delores Laumer in Olivia.
He farmed north of Bird Island for many years before retiring and moving into Olivia. He also worked at the Olivia Canning Company and the Mycogen Seed Company.
He was a longtime member of the Olivia American Legion.
He is survived by his wife; two children: Randy (and Becky) Kubesh of Bird Island, and Vickie (and Bernie) Hesse of St. Paul; five grandchildren; and five brothers: Ben (and Shirley) Kubesh of Olivia, Gordon (and Marlys) Kubesh of Buffalo Lake, Ken (and Jean) Kubesh of Olivia, Charles (and Nicole) Kubesh of Avon and Gene (and Kay) Kubesh of Spicer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and twin sisters at birth.
