DANUBE -- John O.H. Nyquist, 84, of Danube died Wednesday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Zion United Methodist Church in Danube. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
He was born Oct. 4, 1922, on the family farm in rural Danube to Oscar and Caroline (Shoemaker) Nyquist. He graduated from Danube High School and attended the University of Minnesota for a short time. He returned to the family farm and was a lifelong farmer.

He married Avon Stange on March 29, 1960, in Nashua, Iowa. They lived near Danube on the fourth generation farm. They retired from farming in 1987.
He was a member of Lions Club International for 44 years where he held many offices and received numerous awards. He was a firearms instructor, member of the Winfield Township Board, member of the Renville County Historical Society, and a volunteer driver for Heart-To-Heart for many years. He recently assisted with the project to return the Depot to Danube.
He is survived by his grandchildren: Sheri (and Curt) Swenson of Danube, Janie (and Dean) Revier of Olivia, Wendi (and Jim) Davis of Wabasso; stepson: Curt (and Helene) Stange of Fridley; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and one sister: Mary Harriman.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1999.
