Jury selection complete in Little Falls murder case

LITTLE FALLS, Minn. -- Jury selection was completed Wednesday in the trial of Byron Smith, who is accused of murdering two teenagers in his home in 2012.

LITTLE FALLS, Minn. -- Jury selection was completed Wednesday in the trial of Byron Smith, who is accused of murdering two teenagers in his home in 2012.

Seven men and seven women were selected to serve on the jury, including two alternate jurors. The court did not disclose which jurors would serve on the regular jury or which would serve as alternates.

Smith was indicted on two counts of first-degree premeditated murder in the Nov. 22, 2012, shooting deaths of Nick Brady and Haile Kifer. Smith is accused of shooting the teens when they burglarized his Little Falls home that Thanksgiving Day.

A public hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. today to discuss various items before next week’s opening statements. The trial is set to begin at 9 a.m. Monday at the Morrison County Government Center in Little Falls.
