OLIVIA -- Procedural matters preparing the way for a first-degree murder trial for the man accused of fatally shooting his girlfriend in Renville County were heard Tuesday in District Court in Olivia.
Renville County Attorney David Torgelson said questions to be mailed to prospective jurors were approved by the court. The action came after the county attorney and defense attorney Joseph Tamburino reviewed the questions submitted to the court.
The court indicated it would issue a ruling soon on motions by the defendant seeking to dismiss two indictments by a grand jury against him for the death of Kerri Marie Robinson, 36. The motions claim that there was not probable cause for the indictments, alleging that inadmissible character evidence had been presented to the grand jury.
Robinson was found fatally shot Jan. 30 in the home she shared with Goelz in rural Franklin. A complaint filed by Renville County charges that Goelz assaulted her before fatally shooting her as she attempted to flee from him in their home. The county also alleges there was a prior history of domestic abuse by Goelz against her.
Jury selection in the case is scheduled to being Sept. 18.
