Kandiyohi County AIS kickoff event is tonight in New London

NEW LONDON - The  Kandiyohi County Aquatic Invasive Species Task Force will hold its annual kickoff meeting at 6:30 p.m. today at the New London-Spicer High School cafeteria in New London. The public is welcome. Topics will include a review of activities last year and what to expect for this year.
- Watercraft inspections will be again be done by Minnesota Department of Natural Resources inspectors on Green Lake this year, beginning in mid-May and running through August at the Saulsbury Beach access and County Park 5 access.
- Green Lake Property Owners Association applied for and received a DNR watercraft inspection grant which will allow for additional DNR inspection hours at public accesses on the lake.
- The Middle Fork Crow River Watershed District, city of Spicer and Kandiyohi County have all received DNR grants to hire additional watercraft inspectors. These inspectors will work at lakes throughout Kandiyohi County during the summer months inspecting watercraft and operating the decontamination unit at Green Lake. Schedules have not yet been set.
- Green Lake Property Owners Association, the Middle Fork Crow River Watershed District and the city of Spicer are partnering to purchase (with Property Owners Association funds) and operate (with DNR inspection grant funds) a decontamination unit for this and future seasons. The decontamination unit will tentatively be used at the Spicer access on Green Lake and available for all interested boat owners.
- The Kandiyohi County Board of Commissioners voted last week to make the Kandiyohi County AIS Task Force an official county committee. Nominated members are expected to be approved by the commissioners early this month.
